When creating a sculpture of a well-known figure, particularly one who is no longer living, the process differs from working with a living subject. Without the ability to take direct reference measurements or work from life, I rely on photographs and my personal interpretation of the individual.

The sculpture, therefore, becomes an abstraction—a "cartoon" or artistic rendering of Lionel Rose, shaped by how I see him through the lens of history and photography.
