Embedded within the dress are fragments of letters that

combine to form a question:

WHAT IS BEAUTY?

The question has occupied artists, philosophers and designers for centuries, yet remains unresolved. We are instinctively drawn to beauty, but its definition continually shifts between cultures, generations and individual experience.

Why do we seek beauty?

Is beauty universal, or is it entirely personal? Are there underlying principles that cause certain forms, colours and proportions to resonate with us while others do not? Or does beauty exist only in the eye of the beholder?

The hidden text within the sculpture invites a process of discovery. As the viewer gradually identifies the letters concealed within the dress, they become part of the search itself. The work offers no definitive answer. Instead, it suggests that beauty may be less about certainty and more about inquiry.

At the heart of art and design lies this enduring mystery: although we may never fully define beauty, we continue to recognise it, pursue it and respond to it.

Dress Code is an invitation to reflect on that paradox.
